Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler has recommended Deputy Chief Joe Cecile replace him and assume the role of chief, once Fowler’s term ends with the city’s new administration.
Previously, Fowler agreed to remain in the position for one year, following former Mayor Stephanie Miner’s exit, while newly-elected Mayor Ben Walsh conducted a national search to find his replacement.
“We would do ourselves a grave disservice if we didn’t give first deputy chief Joe Cecile a very strong look to replace me as the chief of police,” Fowler said during a recent Common Council meeting, according to an article on Syracuse.com.
Currently, Sharon Owens, the city’s new deputy mayor, is leading the search for a new chief, and she is expected to find a replacement for Fowler by the end of the year.
