Deputy Mayor Sharon Owens to Serve as Cazenovia College Commencement Speaker

Sharon Owens headshot 2.21.18_smallCazenovia College has announced Syracuse Deputy Mayor Sharon Owens will serve as the speaker for the college’s 193rd commencement ceremony.

The deputy mayor will address the school’s graduating class of 2018.

“Owens has worked for more than 30 years in the fields of housing, community development, human services, and government,” the city stated in press release. “In her current position of deputy mayor, Owens oversees city programs and services that address quality of life in our community, including Neighborhood and Business Development and Parks and Recreation, as well as the police and fire departments. She also serves as chief of staff to the mayor.”

Prior to this appointment, Owens also served as the third CEO of Syracuse Model Neighborhood Facility Inc., and worked for the city as deputy commissioner of Neighborhood and Business Development from 2010 to 2013.

She is a graduate of Syracuse University, and currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Greater Syracuse HOPE Initiative, the Consensus Commission on Local Government Modernization, and the I-81 Community Stakeholder Committee.

Cazenovia College is an independent, co-educational college near Syracuse that offers bachelor degree programs in the liberal arts and professional studies.
