Syracuse City School District officials said a gun found in an 18-year-old Fowler High School student’s backpack was hidden there by her boyfriend, May 16.

The student, Mary Gray, was stopped by school security Monday, before entering the school, when the officers detected the weapon in her bookbag.

Security officers at the school immediately seized the weapon, which was a Jimenez Arms 9mm semi-automatic, according to authorities.

Gray reportedly told police she’d had no knowledge the weapon had been placed in her bookbag, and her boyfriend, 19-year-old Aneudy Vazquez, reportedly admitted to police Monday order levitra that the weapon was his.

According to an article in the Post Standard, Gray and Vazquez have each been charged with felony second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and they are being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center.

“The security protocols in place worked effectively, ensuring the safety of students, faculty and staff,” SCSD spokesperson Michael Henesey said in a statement. “At no time were any students or staff in danger.”
