Housing Visions Named to “Top 50 Affordable Housing Developers” List

By Staff

SalinaCrossing-300x87Housing Visions Inc., a Syracuse-based nonprofit developer and manager of affordable housing, announced it has been named as one of the “Top 50 Affordable Housing Developers,” by Affordable Housing Finance (AHF) magazine.

The organization, founded in Syracuse by Kenyon Craig in 1990, has been ranked the seventh best nonprofit developer of affordable housing in America, and ranked number 32 overall. This is the first time Housing Visions has been included on the list.

“This is an honor which underscores how much Housing Visions is helping to revitalize neighborhoods through affordable housing development and supportive services,” Craig stated. “I congratulate our leadership team and entire staff, our board of directors, and most of all, the residents of these revitalized communities, who are clearly the heart and soul of our efforts.”

The organization had begun the construction of 10 buildings in Syracuse, dubbed Salina Crossing by officials, earlier this month. The development will include 49 affordable housing units, and nearly 6,000 sq. ft. of commercial space, in an area that extends four miles along the Salina St. corridor.

In addition, the $15 million development will reportedly also include 20, one-bedroom apartments on the second and third floors of the largest building, and 4,700 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor. The apartments will rent for between $262 and $485 a month.

Officials said a combination of city and state funding, as well as $8.5 million raised in private equity helped pay for the project, which the group said it plans to have completed within one year.

The community-based organization offers managed affordable housing in 11 cities across New York.
