Marriott Syracuse Downtown Extends Job Fair; Plans Another Event

By Staff

Hotel SyracuseThe Marriott Syracuse Downtown, also known as the Hotel Syracuse, has reportedly extended the hours of its Sept. 16 job fair, which will now run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m, due to increased interest in the event.

The career fair was originally scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, and will now include an additional 40 job opportunities, including the original 200 full and part-time jobs organizers had initially been looking to fill.

The fair will be held at the Onondaga County Convention Center, 800 S. State St., and the available jobs have now been expanded to include several other area hotels, including the available jobs at the Marriott Syracuse Hotel.

Managing member of Hotel Syracuse Restoration LLC Ed Riley said he decided to make the move based on an estimated 1,400 people who registered for the event.

In addition, he said event organizers have also considered holding a second job fair in October, in order to accommodate the large number of registrants for the fair.

Registration for the job fair is currently closed, but, reportedly, walk-ins will be welcome, in case interview slots become available throughout the day.

Interested individuals, who were unable to register for the current job fair, may e-mail recruitment.dews@labor.ny.gov, for additional information regarding the upcoming job fair.

Riley purchased the 91-year-old hotel last year, and reportedly said he plans to reopen it as a full-service Marriott, with 261 modern rooms next spring, after a $70 million renovation. Some of the jobs will begin as early as January, he stated.
