The Marriott Syracuse Downtown, also known as the Hotel Syracuse, will hold a job fair, to fill 200 full and part-time jobs, Sept. 16.

The job fair will take place at the Nicholas J. Pirro Convention Center, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 800 S. State St.

According to managing member of Hotel Syracuse Restoration LLC Ed Riley, the hotel is not scheduled to open until next Spring, after a $70 million renovation; however, some of the jobs will begin as early as January.

Riley purchased the 91-year-old hotel last year, after it closed due to a 2004 bankruptcy. He reportedly plans to reopen it as a full-service Marriott, with 261 modern rooms.

“The historic hotel will once again regain its position as the premier hotel in the Syracuse area, and we will significantly impact the hospitality job market, and local economy, with the creation of new career opportunities,” Riley stated.

In addition, according to Riley, and the management company selected to operate the hotel, Crescent Hotels & Resorts, the groups have partnered with State University of New York’s Education Opportunity Center, in order to hire and train prospective employees, who may have no prior experience in the hospitality industry.

Riley said anyone who is interested in attending the event may register online at https://labor.ny.gov/secure/workforce/recruitment-event-syracuse/.  Interested parties may also visit Marriott.com/SYRMC for additional information regarding the new hotel.
