Mayor Miner Hires High-Priced Attorneys In Response to DA’s Investigation

Mayor Miner state of thecitySyracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner has recently hired two high-priced attorneys in response to Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick’s investigation into her administration’s alleged attempt to spread false information in support of litigation against COR Development Co.

Miner sued COR in December, alleging the company had circumvented her authority in order to obtain tax breaks for the Syracuse Inner Harbor Project.

And, despite the fact that Onondaga County Court Judge Walter Hafner Jr. denied a request from Fitzpatrick  last week to subpoena city lawyers’ emails, notes, drafts, and other communications, Mayor Miner has now hired Manhattan attorneys Barry Berke and Steven Sparling, at the hefty price of $850 per hour.

Berke is currently representing New York cheap phentermine 37.5 mg online City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who is also presently in the midst of a federal investigation into his administration’s fundraising activities.

According to Syracuse.com, Berke and Sparling normally charge anywhere from $925 to $1,075 per hour for their services; however, “as a courtesy to the city, we have agreed to cap our hourly rates at $850,” the pair said in a statement.

The city has previously retained lawyers who’ve charged a rate of about $250 per hour, by comparison, according to the website.

Berke and Sparling reportedly began representing the city, along with additional city counsel, at a closed-door hearing before Hafner on April 19.
