Miner: Body Found In Sewer Identified As Brandon Closure

By Staff

closureSewer workers walking in a storm sewer beneath Erie Blvd. in downtown Syracuse found the body of Brandon Closure July 2, city officials stated, after having searched for Closure for two days.

Closure had fallen into a manhole while trying to help a motorist push her car out of waist-high flood waters on East Fayette St. June 30.

According to the city, officials from the Syracuse Police Department, Fire Department, and the Department of Public Works found and removed Closure’s body at 2 p.m. Thursday, taking it from the scene for examination and identification.

At a press conference Thursday, Mayor Stephanie Miner warned that anyone trapped in water during flash floods should call 911.

Closure’s death “was a real loss to our community,” she stated.
