Mayor Stephanie Miner has named Andrew Maxwell as director of policy and innovation in the city’s newly-created Office of Innovation, according to a press release.
Currently, Maxwell is the director of the Syracuse-Onondaga County Planning Agency, and, according to officials, he will stay in the position until a new director is named. Maxwell’s salary will be $89,000 in the new position; his previous salary, at SOCPA, was $92,800.
“I look forward to seeing Andrew Maxwell lead this team,” Miner stated. “He is a dedicated public servant who has worked for nearly a decade in city government, and made significant contributions. We are excited to have him in this new role.”
Miner said she will also be seeking resumes for staff positions in the office.
“This office will offer the city an opportunity to research and explore answers to our greatest challenges in new ways,” she stated. “I am excited to hire this team, and for them to begin their work.”
The four additional new jobs in the office will be:
• Innovation Project Manager
• Innovation Program Coordinator
• Innovation Analytics Coordinator
• Innovation Fellow
Syracuse had been one of fourteen cities selected in 2014 to receive a three-year, $1.35 million grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies in order to establish the innovation office.
