New York State Lottery has announced a new scratch-off lottery ticket that will allow purchasers to find out whether they’ve won by scanning a barcode on the ticket using their smartphones, and then navigating a game called GoldCastle online.
The tickets are now available in retail stores, for $5 per game, and can be played online using the smartphone app, or in the usual way, as an instant scratch-off ticket.
“The New York Lottery is proud to offer the first-ever scratch-off that brings (augmented reality) to life in game play,” New York Lottery director Gardner Gurney said in a statement.
However, according to Gurney, the tickets must still be purchased in-store, even if players have decided to reveal their prizes using the app.
Lottery officials have also said the new 3-D lottery game is one of the first of its kind, and that the Lottery may consider introducing other types of similar games in the future.
