Onondaga County Sheriff Eugene J. Conway will appoint Ford in a promotion ceremony at the Onondaga County Justice Center, at 555 South State St., according to officials.
Ford, 51, will be the first woman promoted to the rank of captain in the history of the sheriff’s department.
She will replace Captain Kevin Brisson in the role, following Brisson’s appointment as assistant chief custody deputy of the sheriff’s custody department.
Ford is a 20-year veteran of the custody department, and first joined the sheriff’s office in 1996. She was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2003, and then to the rank of lieutenant in 2008, becoming the first female to be promoted to the rank of lieutenant in that department.
Ford also previously served as a member of the sheriff’s Emergency Response Team, and as a field training officer for newly hired recruits. She’s also the first female, statewide, to hold the designation of Certified Jail Manager.
Ford will be responsible for managing the Security and Operations Division in the sheriff’s custody department.
