By Staff

blm syrThe first-ever Black Lives Matter rally in Syracuse will take place Monday, July 18, at 9 a.m., beginning at the Everson Museum, and ending at City Hall.

Organizer Shawna Spivey-Spinner has said she hopes Mayor Stephanie Miner, and other local officials, will come out and listen to the group’s requests, which will include building better community-police relations in the area.

“Black lives matter, because there are a lot of black lives being lost to violence,” Spivey-Spinner stated, according to an article in the Post Standard.

Spivey-Spinner is also the founder of Project X, a non-violent suicide prevention campaign she began in 2010.

According to Spinner, she organized the BLM protest to “peacefully” bring together the community.
