City of Syracuse Department of Parks, Recreation, and Youth Programs commissioner Lazarus Sims has announced the department will host its first-ever “A Safe H.O.M.E. Weekend for Young Men” this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Burnet Park.

“We are pleased to offer this unique opportunity, because we need to ensure our young men are given role models at an early age, and are given the tools to make positive decisions,” Sims stated. “I look forward to welcoming these young men to Burnet Park this weekend, and thank our partners from across the city of Syracuse who made this possible.”

According to Sims, the program has invited young men, ages 8 to 14, for a two-night, three-day program that will promote educational enrichment, team building, and mentoring, with the goal of creating a generation of young men who are emotionally, socially and economically strong.

Friday’s program will feature a listening session, in which various community leaders will listen to the young men discuss some of their challenges and concerns they face, as well as a mini-camp offered by the Syracuse Strong semi-pro football team.

On Saturday, the young men will engage in various athletic activities in order to promote physical fitness, and personal interaction.

The camp will wrap up early on Sunday.
