The Syracuse City School District has confirmed a newborn infant was discovered dead at Nottingham High School May 11.
According to a report in Syracuse’s Post Standard, the baby had been found dead in a bag that was given to the school’s nurse.
SCSD Superintendent Sharon Contreras released the following statement May 13, confirming an investigation into the child’s death:
“We are cooperating with the Syracuse Police Department’s ongoing investigation into the death of a newborn child discovered at Nottingham High School. This is a tragic situation and our hearts go out to all of those involved. Our school support staff in the district, including school psychologists, social workers and counselors have been made available to assist students and staff who have been impacted by this difficult tragedy. We will continue to assist the police department in their investigation.”
No additional information has been released regarding the ongoing investigation at this time.
