The City of Syracuse Department of Parks, Recreation, and Youth Programs has announced the Onondaga Youth Hockey Association will be hosting a “Try Hockey for Free Day” clinic at Meachem Ice Rink Saturday, Nov. 7, at 1 p.m.

Youth participants, ages four to nine, will learn basic skills for the sport.

“We are pleased to have the Onondaga Youth Hockey Association as a partner presenting this fun family event,” Lazarus Sims, commissioner of the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Youth Programs, stated. “I encourage everyone to bring their children to try hockey and learn more about this exciting and popular sport.”

In addition, “We look forward to welcoming families to the Meachem Ice Rink to try our great sport of ice hockey,” Onondaga Youth Hockey Association Coach John Weston stated. “Our goal is for these families to enjoy watching their kids learn new skills, with big smiles on their faces.”

USA Hockey’s Try Hockey program, with the support of the National Hockey League (NHL), and NHL member clubs, gives local youth hockey associations a platform for introducing new children to the sport of hockey. National sponsors include KraftHeinz, Total Hocvkey, and Liberty Mutual Insurance.
