Laraque-Arena will be Upstate’s first female president, and her inauguration will include a procession, as well as representatives from both the community and professional societies.
Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner and Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney are slated to attend the event, and SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher will formally inaugurate Laraque-Arena into the position.
“Dr. Danielle Laraque-Arena is an accomplished professional with precisely the right balance of academic, medical, and community engagement experience needed to lead our esteemed Upstate Medical University,” Zimpher stated. “Today’s inauguration marks a significant gain for the SUNY Upstate campus, as well as all our entire university system, and the Central New York community.
Laraque-Arena began in the new position Jan. 14. Previously, she had been chair of the pediatrics department at Maimonides Medical Center, and vice president of Maimonides Infants and Children’s Hospital of Brooklyn.
